Spa Ingredients

Ishan Malaysian Spa uses only the freshest ingredients, including herbs and spices in its signature treatments.

  • Aloe Vera

    Used externally to clear skin blemishes, scars and heal burns or sunburn. It is prized for the amazing healing qualities of the thick, clear liquid in its thorny leaves.

  • Black Rice

    Ishan Malaysian Spa uses black rice as a base in body scrubs due to its exfoliating properties. It leaves your body clean and smooth. Usually comes in black or dark red color, black rice when cooked is thick and sticky.

  • Cloves

    With analgesic qualities, cloves (Eugenia caryophyllus) are traditionally used for toothaches. Known for its antiseptic property, Ishan Malaysian Spa incorporates the oil in our aromatherapy blend to increase overall blood circulation. Combine cloves in your tea when you feel tired or stressed.

  • Coconut

    Ishan Malaysian Spa uses coconut oil to massage the scalp, leaving the hair soft and shiny. Coconut milk is traditionally used as a shampoo for its cleansing properties. We integrate use of coconut milk in our hair treatments, while freshly grated coconut is used to exfoliate dead skin cells.

  • Coffee Beans

    The antioxidants in coffee prevent free radicals from causing cell damage. Ishan Malaysian Spa incorporates crushed coffee beans for exfoliating treatment of the body.

  • Cucumber

    Used mostly for its cooling and revitalizing quality, it is effective for treating oily skin, as it tightens the pores. Its moisturizing property also lends its use to relieve sunburn.

  • Floral Bath

    A warm bath scattered with rose petals, and Pandan leaves; drawn to soothe and refresh your body.

  • Ginger

    Ginger helps relieve stomach discomforts and is prescribed as a remedy for menstrual aches and pains. Externally, it helps soothe aching muscles and help increase blood circulation.

  • Hibiscus

    In boiled and pounded form, hibiscus leaves is a traditional option for shampoo. The leaves have cleansing properties, and its paste used widely as a skin cleanser. We use hibiscus leaves and flower in our signature hair treatment.

  • Kaffir Lime (or makrut lime) Leaves

    Used traditionally for its medicinal purposes, and to add a savory twist to dishes, Kaffir limes has been a favorite ingredient in spas. We use the leaves with other herbs in a poultice for the Traditional Herbal Heat Massage treatment, to ease sore muscles.

  • Lavender

    Lavender’s aroma is soothing, calming and relaxing to the senses. Believed to have healing and disinfecting qualities, lavender’s essential oil is used to create our signature aromatherapy blend.

  • Lemongrass

    When consumed as an herbal tea, this plant root helps speed up a slow digestive system. Ishan Malaysian Spa uses lemongrass in its aromatherapy specialty blend, as it exudes a clean and fresh lemony fragrance.

  • Lime

    With its high vitamin C content and astringency properties, it is used in our floral baths. Lime juice as a drink works as a natural blood purifier.

  • Loofah

    This natural sponge is the dried body of the green gambas plant. Its fibrous yet gentle constituency makes it ideal for removing dead skin cells while still softening and refreshing the skin.

  • Mud (or Clay)

    Rich in a variety of minerals, this natural substance draws any toxins and impurities to the skin's surface, and absorbs them. The result, a more purified, smooth and softened skin.

  • Mung Beans

    From erect bushy cultivated plants in warm regions, Mung beans or Vigna radiate is grown especially for its edible seeds, it is germinated for bean sprouts. Formed as a paste, it cleanses and repairs the skin, leaving it soft to the touch.

  • Neem Leaves

    Scientifically known as Azadirachta indica, Neem is traditionally used in Ayurveda and Indian healing for reducing skin infections, inflammatory conditions. It has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, and has been trusted not only in the health industry, but also for agricultural purposes as an insecticide.

  • Olive Oil

    Olive oil is known for its moisturizing, softening, and regenerating properties. It also contains skin-nourishing vitamins and minerals. Ishan Malaysian Spa substitutes the use of our specialty blend in our massage with this oil, to cater to guests who have skin sensitivity.

  • Pandan Leaves

    With a sweet-smelling scent, use of this leaf is limitless. It is traditionally added to rice, desserts or dishes for its aroma. Ishan Malaysian Spa uses Pandan leaves (screwpine pandanus) for drawing our fragrant floral baths.

  • Peppermint

    Believed to improve concentration, relieve headaches, and reduce mental fatigue, Ishan Malaysian Spa uses Peppermint essential oil in our specialty blend to refresh and revitalize the body.

  • Rose

    Rose essential oil helps to reduce stress and is an anti-depressant. The gentle property of rose is suitable for dry, normal, mature and sensitive skin types.

  • Sandalwood

    Sandalwood is a very fragrant wood, used mostly for burning in temple ceremonies. It has a heavy, woody and sweet aroma. It is believed to calm skin irritations, such as eczema and abscesses, due to its astringent properties.

  • Sea Salt

    Improving pain relief, Sea Salt assists in the rejuvenation of the cells and also induces a healthy exchange of minerals and toxins between the blood and the water.

  • Shikakai

    Shikakai Acacia concinna fruit pods, leaves and bark of this small shrub from central India are dried, powdered and made into a paste. It is a good cleanser, with a low pH value. Extremely mild, it doesn't strip hair of natural oils. It is also used to fight dandruff.

  • Soy Beans

    Desirable because of its nutrition value, soy beans contain 40% protein and 21% oil. Inexpensive in the region, Ishan Malaysian Spa uses crushed soy beans to exfoliate the skin, leaving it smooth and soft.

  • Turmeric

    With powerful astringent and cleansing properties, turmeric root (Curcuma domestica) is used widely for herbal tonics and body scrubs. Ishan Malaysian Spa uses this spice in the Traditional Herbal Heat Massage to ease soreness of muscles.

  • Yogurt

    High in protein and calcium, yogurt is beneficial orally as a health remedy for stomach ulcers, and skin problems such as eczema. Ishan Malaysian Spa uses this ingredient for its facial treatment to make the skin softer and shinier.
